UCSC Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Ungergraduate Research Opportinities

Norris Center for Natural History Internships

The Norris Center often hires up to 20 UCSC students for internships. Internships range from curating museum specimens, to resurveying UCSC Natural Reserve properties. All internships are run through the ENVS internship office. Senior research projects are also available. 

Campus Natural Reserve Internships

The Campus Natural Reserve office manages 789 acres of habitat around the UCSC campus. CNR hires dozens of undergraduate interns each quarter for a variety of projects. The majority of interns work with the Forest Ecology Research Plot or Continuous Forest Inventory projects, where they work to learn forestry and ecology skills while measuring trees on Upper Campus. Other internships include campus stewardship, small mammal trapping, and many more.

Positions available related to habitat restoration, biological monitoring, and songbird banding at the Younger Lagoon Reserve in Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History – Education Internship

The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History seeks a nature enthusiast with a passion for education to intern with the museum’s education programs. Interns gain experience in outdoor, environmental, and science education while helping connect Santa Cruz children to the natural world and build environmental literacy.

Modified Supplemental Instruction

Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI) is a weekly meeting time that is provided for all students in select courses who want to acquire effective learning strategies, work towards understanding difficult course material, and build relationships with their fellow students in an environment of peer-learning and collaborative effort.

Learning Student Services

Learning Support Services (LSS) aims to promote educational equity for all UC Santa Cruz undergraduate students by fostering interactive, peer-based academic communities through Small Group Tutoring, Modified Supplemental Instruction, Drop-In Services, and Writing Tutoring.

Westside Writing Center

The Westside Writing Center (WWC) offers writing consultation services and tutoring designed to teach and support undergraduate students in all aspects of scholastic writing.  We serve Kresge, Oakes, Porter, and Rachel Carson students. Vital assistance for all your writing needs, including supplementing the writing pedagogy for the College Writing and Core courses, supporting non-native language speakers, and assisting students with disabilities.
